Test of Embeding Code
Each photo page in Backdrop displays code for people to copy and paste into their websites. It contains a credit to the photographer and a link back to the photographer’s website.
Here’s a test of the current implementation:
To Do
Just a checklist of things I want to add and tweak in the next couple days.
- Add multiple portfolio sections
- Reordering portfolio sections
- Cleaned up URLs
- Clean up page titles
First Release
I went ahead and uploaded v0.1 to the servers last night.

I originally started building Backdrop because my good friend and great photographer, Josh Goleman, needed a new website. We’ve been throwing around ideas for the past month or so on what would be useful for him and we finally set down and started coding something last weekend.
It’s really nice to be sitting next to the user when you’re making software. It’s sort of like having a talking persona to reference anytime you get stuck. I think it really shows in the work too. Rather than hypothetically thinking about what photographers could potentially need in a site, I’m actually just building one for a person who needs it.
Immediately when I finish a feature he can jump on there and try it out and start using it with his clients. And it’s that sort of instant user research that is making this project fun and I think increases the chance that this tool would be valuable for other people too.
