A year ago when I started playing around with Ruby on Rails one of the criticisms I had heard was the conventions and defaults that made rails so quick also made it a pain to customize.

I never had any problems with it until today; some of the default rails helpers actually got in my way and I had to reroute around them. However, considering that a year ago I didn’t know the basics of programing, barely knew html, or css, downright sucked with dreamweaver and today I’m 100% self-employed and making 90% of my income doing rails work.

I’ll take all the extra help I can get up front while I’m learning and by the time I do find the need to break from the standard conventions I’ll have enough experience to know how to do it.

By the way, here’s the little interface tweak I was working on that didn’t follow the standard conventions. 2 sortable lists that allow back and forth dragging and dropping.

The team sprinted today to get this out.
